Tri-tronics Trashbreaker Ultra II 3-Dog System

by Darrin Glenn :: Featured: November, 2002

After utilizing the new Tri-Tronics Trashbreaker Ultra II 3-dog system for 1 year, I feel I can now give an informed, honest evaluation on this system. I purchased this system from a local hunter & hound supplier in my area. The very first drawback to this system is the price, at $750.00. For the price paid, I had high expectations from this system. The system came in a nice carrying case with all the needed equipment inside for use and charging, which included 1 transmitter with 7-inch detachable, flexible antenna, 3 receiving units with 3 color-coded collars attached and 4 charging units (1 for the transmitter and 3 for the collar units). The transmitter also had a button guard attached which was a plus. The only item that I felt should have been included with the system was a transmitter holster. At a price such as this units sells for, I felt a holster should have been included.

I brought home my new system and immediately began charging the system for use. After charging for the specified time, one of the collar units would not activate. I studied the owner's manual (which was very informative and useful) again to be sure I was using the system correctly to no avail. I then called Tri-Tronics Customer Service to get help. I was connected to a service technician who stepped me through the activation process again, but still the one unit would not come on. The technician then took my information and assured me that I would be receiving a complete new system by UPS within days. In 3 days, I received a package from Tri-Tronics, which included a totally new Trashbreaker Ultra II 3-dog system. The folks at Tri-Tronics also included a pre-paid shipping label for me to return the original system to them. The process did not cost me a single penny. After the initial charge, the new system activated perfectly. I began using the system the next day.

The Trashbreaker Ultra II units on the collars are prefect in size and weight for use with beagles, as well as any hound breed. It does not have any external antenna and has an advertised 2-mile range. The actual range of the system depends largely on the terrain where the system is in use. Mountainous, hilly terrain and thick brush will shorten the effective range of the system, as with any brand or model of electronic collars I have used. However, I did find that the Trashbreaker Ultra II did have a superior range than any unit I have used or seen used (with no external antenna) before. The Trashbreaker Ultra II utilizes "continuous" stimulation, meaning that the collar is applying stimulation as long as the button is pressed. It also has an eight second limit. The intensity is selected by a rotary dial on the top of the transmitter beside the audio tone button, which can be used to signal dogs without utilizing electrical stimulation. The transmitter utilizes a single button to apply stimulation, which I appreciated. Many times "simple is better", especially when applied to training aides! The 3-dog system utilizes a color-coded toggle switch to move stimulation from one collar to the next, and is very simple to use.

I have used the Tri-Tronics Trashbreaker Ultra II system in practically all weather conditions and terrain types for my area, from record heat to snow and rain. My hounds have run this system through most all conditions and the Trashbreaker Ultra II system has preformed flawlessly. Aside from the initial problem with one collar, the system has always worked to perfection. The customer service I received from the folks at Tri-Tronics with my initial problem was handled very fast and more importantly, very professionally. The personnel I talked with were very courteous and wanted to be helpful in any manner. I even received a phone call later from Tri-Tronics customer service after receiving my new replacement system, just to ask if I was happy with my new system and if I had any problems. The customer service I received from Tri-Tronics was second to none, and that is very important to me as a customer!

The Tri-Tronics Trashbreaker Ultra II electronic collar system is well worth the price paid for what a beagler will get in return. A quality product that will last for years and a customer service department that will handle any problems professionally and courteously. I would not hesitate to recommend this e-collar system to anyone!
